Facebook pulls the plug on Credits as transition to local currency payments is completed
Facebook has officially pulled the plug on its virtual currency Facebook Credits, after announcing the shutdown when it unveiled its local currency payments API back in June.
When Facebook Credits launched in January 2011, many game developers used it as a secondary form of currency on top of an in-game currency (until Facebook made Credits mandatory in July 2011). The introduction of local currency payments was meant to give developers more flexibility to price across a range of currencies, making it simpler for users to understand the relevant prices and helping to smooth out uncertainties in exchange rates.
