American Express Launches Rewards On Facebook, Get Cash Back Based On Your Likes

American Express has long been using social media to offer rewards and promotions to their cardholders. In June, they announced a partnership with the location-based check-in service Foursquare that offered users cash back when they used their card. The credit card company also teamed up with the Tribeca Film Festival in April for a contest that took place on YouTube.
American Express is at it again, and this time they’ve chosen Facebook to help give cardholders some great rewards. Their new app called “Link, Like, Love” gives you deals and credits on your card statements based on the things you Like on Facebook, the interests you have listed and the people you are friends with. The program is free and available to all cardholders who have a Facebook account. Plus, once you sign up, you’ll get major savings on some of your favorite things.

The program starts Tuesday and to register, all you have to do is link your card to the program and pick your deals. The deals are specifically catered to your interests. For example, if you’re like me and you like shopping, you can get $25 back for every $100 you spend at Lord & Taylor; if you shop at Whole Foods, you can get $5 for every $20 you spend and if you like to go to restaurants, you can get $10 back for every $25 you spend at Outback Steakhouse. The deals are credited automatically to your account, which means you don’t need to print out a coupon — you just have to use your card.
In the next few months, American Express is planning on offering exclusive content via their Facebook Page. Users will get Membership Rewards points offers, entertainment access and access to special events. There’s also a video stream on their Facebook Page where they are answering users’ questions about the program.
In order to facilitate more participation from smaller businesses, American Express has introduced their first ever social marketing tool for merchants called “Go Social.” This new service will help small businesses distribute American Express offers through social platforms like Facebook.
American Express is undoubtedly trying to expand their social influence. With their recent partnerships and their new “Go Social” tool, we can expect that the credit card company will be launching even more amazing promotions in the near future.
