With the various music services that have been integrated into Facebook, we’ve seen some awesome developments and opportunities to discover new music for free. Spotify recently opened up public membership and gave all users 6 months of free unlimited service when they logged in with their Facebook account. The latest in awesome free music is a new offer from Rdio, the music service developed by the founders of Skype.
For the first time, Rdio launched a free, on-demand music service with zero ads. Only an email address or Facebook account is required to sign up – no credit cards, no downloads – and you’ll have access to Rdio’s over 12 million songs. This service will allow you to build customized playlists, get music recommendations based on taste, stream full songs on-demand and see and hear what your friends are listening to in real-time.
Drew Larner, CEO of Rdio, spoke about the launch of their ad-free service. He said:
We’re proud to be the only service in the U.S. to offer everyone the opportunity to listen to millions of songs for free, without the distraction of a single ad. With free access to Rdio, now everyone has the freedom to discover what our fans already know – we’re the best service for listening to and discovering music.
Once you sign up for the service, at the top of your Rdio profile page you’ll have a meter that shows how much free listening you have each month. If you run out, you can upgrade your plan so you can listen to unlimited streams and use Rdio’s mobile app. Much like Spotify’s Facebook integration, once you play a song on Rdio you can instantly share it on Facebook in your News Feed, Ticker or Timeline.
Rdio has a couple of subscription plans for users who don’t want to be tied to a monthly limit. Rdio Web gives you unlimited access to Rdio’s catalog on a browser or desktop for $4.99 per month. Rdio Unlimited is $9.99 per month and gives you unlimited Web streaming and streaming on mobile apps as well as wireless synching to listen if you’re not online. Rdio also has a family plan where you can have 2 unlimited subscriptions for $17.99 per month or 3 for $22.99 per month.
