[INFOGRAPHIC] How Social Media Has Changed The Relationship Game

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, now seemed like as good a time as any to take a look into social media’s growing impact on relationships.  A fun new infographic takes a look at the role social networks, and specifically Facebook, play in the relationship development from dating to marriage and even (unfortunately) divorce.

The infographic, courtesy of Julianna Rae – Luxury Lingerie, reports that 60 percent of Facebookers list themselves in some sort of relationship, with 31 percent listed as married, 5 percent listed as engaged, 3 percent listed as “It’s Complicated” and 24 percent listed simply as “In a Relationship.”
While the infographic provides some interesting stats on the beginnings of relationships, some of the most interesting findings had to do with divorces and breakups (sorry to kill the Valentine’s spirit).  Apparently, in a survey of 1,000 Facebook users a whopping 25 percent of respondents said that they found out their relationship was over by seeing it on Facebook!  21 percent said they’d simply change their relationship status to break up with someone!  What, oh what, is this world coming to?
Facebook has completely changed the relationship game, from the information we share to the friends that leave comments and tag photos on our walls.  Check out the infographic below to find out more.  Do you think Facebook has changed the relationship game for the better or for the worse?  We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.  Oh, and Happy V-Day!
