Netflix May Launch In France, Germany Next

Netflix is looking to expand its operations further into Europe as it has reportedly been talking to officials in France, Germany, and other European countries, seeking information on laws that could affect its operations. Reuters reports:

“Netflix wanted information about the legal conditions that would affect its potential arrival in France,” an official at the president’s office said, adding that the executives were also visiting Germany and other European countries.

French subscribers wouldn’t likely be able to enjoy much of what subscribers in other countries do when it comes to moves, as law prohibits films from appearing on monthly subscription services for three years after their cinematic release.

Netflix is Coming to Virgin Media TiVos

In an unusual move for a pay-TV operator, Virgin Media is going to enable Netflix on its TiVo DVRs in the UK. Here in the US cable company-provided TiVos are missing the app and have blamed its absence on Netflix's content agreements with the studios. Virgin Media's claim that its the first pay-TV operator to offer TiVo doesn't seem quite right though, since Google Fiber TV has included Netflix and YouTube (which VM wedged into TV guide listings earlier this year) alongside regular TV since it launched, and recently added Vudu to the mix. Either way, we expect subscribers will be happy to see the option when it pops up for all later this year, a trial starting this week is limited to 40,000 households. The two will still need separate accounts and billing, at least for now, and users can create a new account within the app itself.

Google Gives #Netflix Users A #Chromecast Tour

Google has posted a video to its Chrome YouTube channel discussing how to cast using Netflix. Google unveiled the device at a press event last month, launching with Netflix suppor immediately.

“Simply plug Chromecast into your TV, connect it to Wi-Fi, then launch Netflix on your Android device, iOS device or laptop to start playback on the TV. This will give you another great way of finding TV shows and movies to watch and a great TV viewing experience,” Netflix said at the time.

If you still get DVDs from Netflix, you’ve probably been seeing Chromecast ads on the envelopes.

Facebook Is Not Required For Free UK Netflix Trial

After months of waiting and numerous announcements of its streaming deals, Netflix finally launched its video-on-demand service in the UK and Ireland, allowing Internet users to sign up for a one month free trial and charging £5.99 a month thereafter.
Right about now we expect there are thousands of visitors on the Netflix website, signing up to the one-month trial to see what it is all about. However, just a couple of hours after launch, many users were already lamenting the fact that Netflix is using Facebook to assist them with their signups, with a large percentage incorrectly thinking that in order to receive their free trial they must register using Facebook.
Visiting the Netflix site, users are met with one of the following sign-up options. One view will suggest that users connect their Facebook accounts to start the registration process (this is if you are NOT already logged into Facebook before visiting). It also provides smaller and less obvious option to sign up using an email address and password below the one-month trial box:

However, if you ARE logged into Facebook, you will be met with this option, showing a simple sign-up form:

 

So, it all depends on the status of your Facebook account when you visit the site. In order to ensure you can sign up without connecting your account, simply visit Netflix’s UK site whilst logged into Facebook OR use the or sign up using email address option below the Facebook login form.

Netflix Reveals Facebook Integration Is Coming Soon, But US Users Will Have To Wait

Netflix released its Q2 earnings report Monday and the company has revealed that integration with Facebook is on the way and that it will probably be launched before the next earnings report is released.
However, you might be a little out of luck if you are a Netflix user based in the U.S. as the integration will not be available in the country at first. Due to legal complications regarding video sharing data, Netflix will be initially launching the Facebook integration in Canada and Latin America.
